The transfer window will close tonight at about 11pm Nigerian time as coaches try to put some finishing touches to their teams. This is the most exciting part of the transfer window as it encompasses drama and great fun.
Manchester United have splashed out on Angel di Maria, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo but are still deficient in midfield and defence. United boss, Luis van Gaal is hoping to add two or three players today and is willing to let Javier Hernandez (to Real Madrid), Anderson (unknown) and Tom Cleverley (to Aston Villa) leave.
Arsenal are in dire need of a striker after losing first choice striker, Oliver Giroud to a long term injury. Arsene Wenger, Arsenal coach, has reiterated the depth in the squad and may opt to play German International Lukas Podolski and/or Costa Rican, Joel Campbell through the middle. Arsenal have played with summer signing Alexis Sanchez and French young international Yaya Sanogo in their last two games but both players were unconvincing. They failed in their bid to hijack Loic Remy’s £8million move to Chelsea yesterday. Arsenal are also chasing a defender and defensive midfielder; they have tabled a bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos after missing out on Kostas Manolas who chose AS Roma instead.
Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea have all concluded their transfer businesses and will let fringe players leave permanently or short term to offset wage bill. Most high profile names linked with a move away are Petr Cech, who has fallen behind Thibaut Courtouis at Chelsea, and Alvaro Negredo, who is recuperating from an injury. Cech, 32, has been a mainstay in Chelsea for a decade and may decide to close his ties with the club.
