A couple days more (see what I did there?) and the streets will be filled with lovers heading places to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day. All roads would be leading to fancy restaurants and sophisticated bars and cinemas and valentine themed shows. Everybody would be going out- but you. You might want to stay home and plan some much sought-after alone time with that special one. With the hustle and bustle of our normal lives, this is a wonderful idea. Whatever you have planned, don’t forget movies. You know you want to cuddle. Here are some options to indulge you and yours in.
Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011): Funny, captivating, and laden with steal-worthy love quotes, this is one movie to cuddle up to. It is about a man caught up in his middle, mainstream ages, until his wife tells him she wants a divorce. While wallowing in despair, he finds a friend who promises to help him change his image and make his wife regret her decision.
-Starring: Steve Carell, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore
-Duration: 118 minutes
-IMDB rating: 7.5/ 10
An Affair to Remember (1957) – Two people fall in love with each other, despite being engaged to other people. They eventually agree to meet in six months at the Empire State building, but do they? The American Film Institute considers this to be one of the most romantic movies of all time.
The Notebook (2004): “So it’s not gonna be easy. It’s going to be really hard; we’re gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me … every day.” Aww! Isn’t that just sweet? Larry King from CNN thinks it’s sweet too. In fact, he says “It is the best love story I have seen in years.” Here’s a trivia tip- this movie happened to win Best Kiss at the MTV Movie awards.
-Starring: Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, Gena Rowlands, and James Garner
-Duration: 123 minutes
-IMDB rating: 7.9/10
Love and Other Drugs (2007): This movie features Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal, two very talented, very attractive actors. As a change from the cute, sweet little woman everybody seems to be accustomed to, Hathaway presents a rather sassy front of a young woman plagued with Parkinson’s disease. Jake has to battle between this, his job, and his desire for a simple life.
-Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Oliver Platt, and Gabriel Macht
-Duration: 112 minutes
-IMDB rating: 6.6/10
Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012): Brace yourself, this movie is an emotional rollercoaster. It is about a highschool boy who suffers a medical trauma and has to restart high school, while his former classmates are now seniors. He meets a whole new set of queer people, falls in love, and experiences their lives in such a way that eventually sets him free. The beauty of this movie is in its uniqueness; it is not like the other chick flicky, unrealistic high school movies. This one clearly highlights the problems of the average teenager with strong emotional undertones. Keep some tissues by your side for this one.
-Starring: Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller
-Duration: 102 minutes
-IMDB rating: 8.2/10
Go ahead and enjoy.
