For smartphone users, it has been the most interesting year. There has been a rapid sweep of innovations from established mobile companies and new players in the market like Amazon. With the companies releasing new phones daily, trying to eliminate competition and stay at the top of their games, we are bombarded with so many choices; it is almost difficult to decide what gadget to buy. To help you make the perfect decision on what phone to buy, we have put together a list of top 8 smartphones released in 2014. 1. HTC ONE M8: The M8 released in March, is one of the best looking and designed smartphones currently in the market with a body of elegant metal. It is loaded with the high powered Snapdragon 801 processor, high resolution 5in, 1080×1920, 441, and super LCD capacitive touch-screen. The HTC One M8 has a duo camera; a new technology that enables it’s 4.1 ultra-pixel rear camera capture spatial images using a second supporting camera sensor. This means you can take pictures everywhere and in space too. Scientists who are selfie lovers can take as many pictures as they want, even on the moon. The camera also lets users adjust the focus of the camera manually, and creates depth-of-field effects on pictures taken. 2. SONY XPERIA Z3: Announced just six months after the Z2 was announced, the Sony XPERIA Z3 was built to prove why it is better than its ancestors. It has a slimmer frame and runs on the more current version of Google’s Android 4.4 kitkat operating system. The Z3 was released in September, and it has a stellar 5.2In full HDTV screen, a quad-core Qualcom Snapdragon 801 processor, and a 20.7 Mega pixel rear camera. 3. NOKIA LUMIA 930: Released this October, the phone is loaded with the latest enterprise-ready mobile version of Windows 8.1. The Nokia LUMIA 930 is a must-have smart phone. It has advanced security and productivity features and mobile-device management support and other applications that make life and business easy. It also has top end hardware like Finnish film’s hallowed PureView imaging technology. 4. SAMSUNG GALAXY S5: This Samsung phone is worth every naira spent on it. Released in February, it came with many attractive and unique features like a custom fingerprint scanner, a heart rate monitor, and Knox security services built into the phone. It is built to be a rugged phone with its water and dust proof IP certified design. 5. NEXUS 6: Although Google’s next flagship smartphone is yet to be released, it still made it to the list of smartphones to be released this year because it offers a lot for less. From testimonies about the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, we know that the Nexus 6 will be just as awesomely cheap and offer more. 6. iPHONE 6: Released in September, the iPhone 6 is equipped with the latest operating system from Apple, iOS8. The iPhone 6 has a curvaceous metal design which is new, a superfast A8 processor and is 25 percent faster than the iPhone 5. 7. LG G3: This Android smartphone was developed by LG Electronics, serving as a successor to 2013’s G2. It was released in May, and made this list because of two of its interesting features; it’s 5.5in 2560×1440, 538ppi Quad HD display, and its advanced 13MP with optical image stabilizer plus, and laser autofocus rear camera. The LG G3 has one of the sharpest screens ever made and the fastest camera available which focuses images in 0.276 seconds. 8. BLACKBERRY PASSPORT: This recently released BlackBerry is the most advanced and interesting BlackBerry device currently available. BlackBerry Passport brought a new twist to the classic QWERTY BlackBerry design with its physical touch-enabled keyboard and unique trackpad built into the keyboard. Its 1440×1440 LCD panel is bright, gorgeous, and renders colours beautifully. The perfectly square shaped phone is a very striking and uniquely designed phone. Battery life on the BlackBerry Passport is awesome. It comes with a 3450mAh battery that is strong and lasting; it can survive a full day no matter how heavily you use your phone.
