Recently Akwaaba Africa Travel Market announced the names of Tour Operators from about 17 African countries that would be beneficiaries of the Africa Travel Awards. The awards are to recognise the tour operators who encourage African tourists to travel within Africa. The award presentation is usually held on the first day of the event to mark the formal opening of the fair.
The Akwaaba Africa Travel Market is an international travel event that has been organized since 2005. This year’s event will be the 14
th edition and it will be held at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The vision is to stimulate intra-Africa Tourism; to get at least 10% of African travelers to explore other African countries.
This event is the only international travel fair hosted in West Africa. It brings together tourism investors, foreign and domestic airline operators, Africa’s leading hotel chains, culinary tourism chefs, celebrities, Tourism boards/associations, etc. and over 10,000 visitors. Hence, it is referred to as the event ‘where Africa meets the World’.
The Africa Top 100 list was put together by ATQ News (an online travel news portal) in partnership with the Akwaaba Africa Travel Market Limited. The organisers had vetted and screened a large number of nominated entries to come up with this list. Only Destination Marketing Companies (DMCs) that market mainly regional destinations were selected for this list.
This means there are still a lot of local travel agencies in Nigeria that occasionally organise trips outside Nigeria but are not on this list. So if you are planning a tour outside Nigeria but you are not sure which agency to contact, this list can help you streamline your options.
Below are the Top 10 Nigerian Tour Operators who made the list:
- Tour Brokers International
- Diamonds & Pearls
- Goge Africa
- Wakanow
- Peacock Travels & Tours
- WONTRA
- Foshizi Tours
- Amazing African Escape
- Aviator Tours
- Abay Tours
Other winners from Nigeria that made the list are:
- Once Upon a Destination
- Dial Travel
- FlyBoku
- FIDOL Trip
- CMD Tours
- Dees Travels
- Hadur Travels
- Topaz Travels
- Travel Kulture
So if you happen to be in Lagos between 9

th September, attend the expo and cheer our winners on. They deserve some accolades!
