The Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Mr. Tony Elumelu, has been awarded as the winner of the African Business Icon Award by
African Business Magazine, a United Kingdom based publication.
The awards, which was held 20th September at the Mandarin Oriental, New York, is in its sixth year and is aimed at celebrating exemplary achievements of businesses and business leaders. Elumelu, former Chief Executive Officer of United Bank of Africa, was recognized for his “vision and exemplary achievements” and his efforts in promoting African economic growth.
Elumelu expressed gratitude for his recognition, noting that it was made possible through the efforts of members of his group. “It is a greata honour to be given the title of ‘African Icon’ and it is extremely encouraging to be recognised for delivering on a mission for which I am passionate. This award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the group of talented and equally passionate Africapitalists with whom I work. The award recognises the role we are all playing in creating jobs, driving prosperity and ultimately transforming the lives of ordinary Africans through the investments and philanthropic interventions we are making.”
On September 25, the Africa-America Institute, AAI, will also award Elumelu in the category for Leadership Award in Business and Philanthropy at a gala dinner that will feature dignitaries such as President Goodluck Jonathan (Nigeria), John Dramani Mahama (Ghana), Jakaya Kikwete (Tanzania), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairman, African Union Commission.
