The Lekki Concession Company Ltd. reveals plans to increase toll gate fares on Admiralty Road and Lekki Ikoyi link bridge toll gate, a plan that would be effective from November 8, 2017.
The company had been established to execute Lekki Toll Road Concession project to help create high-quality road infrastructure and solving the problem of historic high congestion common around Lekki Peninsular of Lagos.
They are now set to increase the tolling rates. The new prices range for different vehicles types; Saloon car owners at the Admiralty toll gate would now pay N200 and no longer N120, while saloon cars at the Ikoyi – Lekki bridge would pay N300 rather than N250.
The Sport Utility Vehicles popularly called SUVs will now pay N250 against the N150 they used to at the Admiralty gate and N400 at the Ikoyi-Lekki Link Bridge, which used to be N300 while Commercial Buses would pay a sum of 150.
Residents, however, seem not to be pleased with this development and is taking action against the raise immediately. One Ngozi Ihedigbo has created a petition on citizengo.org and 2,694 people have assigned a little above the 5,000 signatures needed.
Here’s what Ngozi Ihedigbo said. “Nigeria is a country in recession, people have no jobs and the ones with jobs can hardly survive on their salaries. Yet all the government is doing is impose hardship on innocent people for their selfish gain. There is no reason why there should be an increase on the Lekki-Victoria Island bridge and we need this action to be stopped.”
