Nigeria has a tropical climate with both rainy and dry seasons, depending on the location of the country. The period of March/April is known to be the warmest time of the year, and because of this one can find it hard to dress appropriately for the season. In this article, we discuss what to wear in the sweltering heat and humidity of the season.
For the warm weather, it is advisable that you:
Don’t wear tight clothes. Loose-fitting clothes should be worn in this warm weather so you need to get wide-leg trousers, oversize and loose shirts, dresses and skirts with enough space for airflow.
Get light-coloured clothing. You should wear light-coloured dresses which are capable of reflecting rather than absorbing the sun’s rays.
Go for fabrics that do not trap moisture. Buy and wear clothes that are 100 percent linen, cotton, or silk.
Get sleeveless shirts or loose sleeves shirts. Since the days are predominantly warm, you need to have as much airflow as possible. Sleeveless shirts are the best option.
Get leather sandals. Strappy sandals are great for the kind of fashion you will be using this season. Get comfortable and stylish sandals that will let your toes breathe.
Avoid wearing jeans. As we all know, denim is one of the heaviest fabrics. Avoid stretch jeans or skinny jeans this season. Instead, get lightweight cotton or linen trousers. But if you must wear jeans, then get wide-leg jeans which are free to wear and allows for some air circulation.
Dressing for Work:
The warm weather should not be an excuse for you to dress shabbily to work. In your office, you need to look professional while wearing clothes that are best for the season.
Get light–coloured work wears. Avoid those that are dark in colour.
If your office has air conditioning, you could opt to get light cardigans that will not make you uncomfortable. As you move about, from your home to the office and back home, you would need a cotton cardigan.
For your shoes, wear closed-toe shoes. Flip-flops are not for office use, if you must use them, use them outside the office. You should only wear closed-toe shoes in the office. Also, get comfortable socks to go with the shoes.
