Opening a bank account used to be a big task, characterized by long queues and lengthy paperwork. But, thanks to advancements in mobile technology, you can simply use your mobile phone to open a bank account at your own convenience.
GT Bank is one of the few banks leading the way in making banking services available on mobile. Its mobile USSD service allows you to perform banking transactions including opening a new account with the bank.
How to open a new account with GT Bank
Dial *737*0# on your mobile phone and follow the onscreen prompts. You’ll choose whether to register with your BVN or to supply the details individually.
Once you sign up, your ten-digit account number (NUBAN) will be created automatically and sent to you via SMS. You can also use your phone number as your account number to carry out simple transactions like withdrawing cash without the use of an ATM [cardless withdrawal].
Once your new account is ready and has some cash in it, you can start enjoying services on GT Bank like airtime recharge and funds transfer. Simply dial *737*amount# to recharge your mobile phone.
For bank transfer, dial *737*1*Amount*Recipient’s Account Number# and follow the on-screen prompts. To send to other banks, dial *737*2*Amount*Recipient’s Account Number# and follow the on-screen prompts.
Opening an account via your mobile phone will allow you to deposit a maximum of ₦50, 000 per transaction, and you are also entitled to a maximum account balance of ₦300, 000. You can upgrade your account afterwards if you need to carry out bigger transactions.
