Here are some remarkable events which took place this week in Nigeria’s history.
1.
November 3, 1933 – The day Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was born. Ojukwu served as the military Governor of the Eastern Region of Nigeria in 1966 and later as the leader of the Republic of Biafra from 1967 – 1970. He died in 2011, aged 78.
2. Regarding Nigerian football, recent call-ups were made from the Nigerian premier league. We have MF Ugonna Uzochukwu of Chippa United, who featured in the 2014 African Nations Championship and MF Nosa Igiebor of Maccabi Tel Aviv, who featured in the game between Nigeria and Sudan played on 15th October, 2014, both were born on 3rd November, 1992 and 9th of November, 1990 respectively.
3. November 3, 1998 – General Olusegun Obasanjo declared his intention to run for the presidency.
4. November 8, 2013 – Golden Eaglets Wins FIFA U-17 World Cup in Abu Dhabi defeating Mexico 3 goals to nil. On this day, Nigeria through Golden Eaglets became the first country to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the fourth time.
5. November 6, 2003 – The day Major-General Phillip Effiong died. He was the Chief of General Staff under Biafran Head of State, Odumegwu Ojukwu. He was also Nigeria’s first Director of Ordinance. He became Biafra’s Head of State on the 8th of January, 1970 and on the 12th of January, he surrendered. He died at the age of 78.
