The 2011 edition of Star Quest, a music competition for bands and music groups alone, was won by D’Beat (The B.E.A.T)—a six-man band. The sextet comprises of lead singer Beauty Aghedo; female vocalists Charity Adubi and Serene Enid Eyube; keyboard player Justice Adhigo; drummer Efetobor Ojarigho; and bassist/bandleader Sammie Tochux.
They were announced winners at the grand finale on 7th May, 2011 and went away with a recording contract worth N7.5 million. They also got N3.6 million as cash prize, a minivan, one year accommodation at any chosen area in Lagos, and the promise of stardom.
Their stars are about to shine brighter as Now Muzik has taken up the responsibility to manage the band. With few weeks to the expiration of their deal with Nigerian Breweries the group is expected to record an album as well as deliver a video before the end of their tenure. With the guidance of their new management—Now Muzik—D’Beat is sure to make a difference in the music industry.
The Now Muzik Management is working on ways to stretch their capacity beyond the ordinary. For the Now Muzik Boss, Efe Omorogbe, the deal is beyond the sextet recording an album and delivering a video. He says, ‘it’s about making this band stand out as independent and competitive in the music industry’. For Now Muzik, it’s beyond discovering talents but also harnessing them.
Work is already in progress with the combined expertise of renowned producers like Paul Play and J-Martins and a few others to make their album outstanding and world-class.
For the Band Leader, Samuel Tochux, he spoke for the rest of the group when he said that they are open to all the possibilities and creativity needed to pull through with the project at hand. He expressed his total confidence being under the wings of Now Muzik: ‘with Now Muzik steering, we’re sure of a safe landing’.
Plans are already on ground to prepare them for a few performances at exclusive venues, to showcase their talent and register their presence in the music industry.
According to Efe Omoregbe, he put the vision of Now Muzik for the band in these few, and promising, words: ’we intend to make a statement with this band.’
