The new European football season kicked off this weekend with great entertainment and excitement.
English football season traditionally starts with a fixture between current English Premier League winners and reigning English FA Cup Champions.
As a result, Chelsea, who have Nigerian Internationals, Victor Moses and John Mikel Obi on the team, faced an Arsenal side that boasts of the likes of Chuba Akpom and Alex Iwobi at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
Victor Moses, John Mikel Obi and Alex Iwobi were named on the bench for their respective clubs. Chuba Akpom failed to make the cut despite scoring a hat-trick in pre-season.
Moses replaced Chelsea captain, John Terry in the 82nd minute as Chelsea chased the game late-on. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had given Arsenal a first-half, which was enough to see Alex Iwobi win the first winners medal.
In Germany, Bayern Munich were stunned by a late goal from Nicklas Bendtner in the German Super Cup. Bendtner scored a late equaliser for Wolfsburg to send the game to penalties and also stepped up to score the winning penalty.
In France, Paris Saint-Germain strolled past Olympique Lyonnais with an easy 2-0 win in French Super Cup.
The league proper will commence next weekend in England, France and Germany.
