It is less than one week to the cinema release of perhaps the most anticipated Nollywood movie of the year, Toka Mcbaror’s ‘The Island‘.
A countdown has already begun on the movie’s official Instagram page, with promises of a mind-blowing block-buster movie experience.
The Island movie was produced in 2017, and the first peek we had of the film was on a Youtube upload in November 2017 by Fresh Nigerian Movie Trailers, with the movie titled Death Island. However, Achivas Entertainment released the official movie trailer in May 2018, giving us a better idea of what to expect.
The film follows the story of an army officer, Hamza, who is caught in the shadows of a shady military intelligence unit when he intercepts a conversation on weapons sale between unknown terrorists and agent. Enthusiastic about breaking the new intel to his superior officer, Hamza makes a discovery that is as terrifying as it is shocking.
The executive producer is quick to point out that although the movie paints a picture of the kind of corruption in the country’s security system, its story, characters and situations are entirely fictional and a product of imagination and art. It also mentions that the film “will challenge patriotism amidst corrupt influences”. The Island is produced By Daniel Cole & Freda Francis and directed by award-winning director Toka Mcbaror.
Here is what Afro-pop music sensation 2baba had to say about the film:
If the time it has taken to prepare the movie for official release is anything to go by, then we should expect nothing short of the best in quality and entertainment. It has already been nominated for awards at The Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) which is to hold in Toronto, Canada this month.
