Made in Heaven a film by Toka McBaror. It premiered at the Filmhouse IMAX cinemas on the 15th of September and there was a lot of excitement. The event paid tribute to the latest Lagos trend of costumed movie premieres. Guests came dressed in fantastic outfits according to the theme: ‘Angels and Demons’.
Nancy Isime’s all-white costume at the premiere was the most impressive. She attended the premiere dressed as an angel; with a cluster of white feathers attached to the top of her head. A few of the others in attendance were Ayo Makun, Lasisi Elenu, the Instagram comedian, and Uche Nwaefuna.
Made in Heaven, is the most fascinating project Toka McBaror has worked on so far. The film is a bold and creative take on how the spiritual realm influences the physical. Maybe it’s the fact that spirits, angels, and supernatural powers are involved, but the action and storyline brings old school Nollywood films to mind. It’s something very different from the Nollywood stories of today.
The main characters, Richard and Angela, die on the same night and meet on their way to judgement. Angela is sent back to earth, and Richard tricks his way out of Heaven to be with her. Back on earth, his guardian angel appears to him and informs him of the stakes. He must find Angela and win her heart in 7 days.
McBaror’s track record is brief but impressive. In 2018, he directed Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons, and early this year he finished filming The Millions. He moved on to his next project quickly. In March, he began filming Made In Heaven, a fantasy/action/adventure film that features many of his cast members from The Millions. Meanwhile, Netflix acquired streaming rights to Merry Men in August this year, the film will be available to watch on the global streaming platform soon. On the other hand, The Millions debuted in cinemas two weeks ago. It obviously has been a good year for Toka McBaror.
Made in Heaven features AY the Comedian, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Lasisi, Toyin Abraham, Richard Mofe Damijo, Jide Kosoko, and Nancy Isime. Nancy Isime plays the part of Richard’s enigmatic guardian angel. In the teaser, we see her in the thick of the action, running to attack with an impressive sword.
Made in Heaven was produced by Peekaboo Global Consulting and co-produced with Newlink Entertainment, NewOhens Limited and Corporate World Entertainment Limited, and supported by Filmone Distribution. It will be in cinemas nationwide from the 20th of September.
