There are a few places where crafts are worth their quality and price value. The Lekki Arts and Craft Market in Lagos is one of them. Though inconspicuously sited, sandwiched between streets with barely a sign announcing its presence, the art market is stocked with truly African art from within and beyond Nigeria. The Lekki Arts Market is a tourist’s haven, a must-see for the art lover. Displayed in shops are paintings, decorative pieces carved from wood and stone or made from dried plants and animal skins, functional crafts like baskets and mats woven from raffia, colourful ready-to-wear attire hanging from pegs and accessories made from leather, cowries and assorted beads. The Lekki Arts and Craft Market, Lagos---www.connectnigeria.com The items are so enticing, visitors would learn to place a ban on their purses and be content with the fact of visiting alone. Tourists would also gain from knowing to bargain well as initial prices can be almost outrageous compared to final prices. Also known as the Oba Elegushi Craft Market, the art market is located before the Jakande roundabout along the Lekki-Epe expressway and is open every day, between the hours of 8 AM and 6 PM. It is on the right turn just before the pedestrian bridge before Jakande, which is the 5th roundabout from the Lekki toll gate.
