Business management refers to a set of functions designed to get things done through and with people, through efficiency in resources utilization to effectively attain pre–determined goals in a business. This typically includes the production of materials, money and machines. It involves both innovation and marketing. The goal of management is to get people together to achieve the same desired objectives and goals by using the resources that are available in an effective and efficient way.
Management functions include organizing, directing, planning, staffing and controlling an organization. They also encompass the manipulation and deployment of financial resources, natural resources, human resources and technological resources.
Management is necessary to facilitate a united effort towards achieving the organization’s goal and the importance of management can never be underestimated or ignored, as it is a proven fact that the success of a business entirely depends on how well it is managed.
Here is why management is important for any business:
- Aligning Goals:
A company consists of employers and several employees who work together where everybody has his or her own goals, but still follow through a common direction to achieve their goal together.
- Cost Reduction:
Management helps to combine all the factors of productivity and organize them, because it involves the best utilization of resources, which prevents wastage of time and efforts, which eventually reduces the wastage of money. Therefore, management gives better ROI (Return on investment) and reduction in cost helps in getting a good position in the market and keeps the company ahead in the competition.
- Management Increases Efficiency:
The main aim of every manager in any organization is to minimize the cost and to increase the output through effective planning, organizing, directing, staffing, controlling etc. Efficiency increases when we use fewer resources (i.e. inputs) and achieve more benefit or output.
In any organization, input resources are men, money, material and machinery. Management uses these inputs efficiently by properly allocating them to reduce the wastage, which ultimately decreases cost and thus, leads to higher profits.
- Optimum Utilization of Resources:
Management utilizes all the physical & human resources productively. This leads to efficacy in management. Management provides maximum utilization of scarce resources by selecting its best possible alternate use in industry from out of various uses. It makes use of experts, and these services leads to use of their skills, knowledge, and proper utilization, and avoids wastage.
- Surviving In A Dynamic Environment:
A company operates in a dynamic environment where there are continuous changes, which includes a number of external factors that affect it’s functioning, and the people working in the organization resist change, because they don’t want to move from a familiar and secure environment to a new environment. This makes it almost obligatory for the company to be flexible and change its short-term goals and working styles according to the changing environment. Management helps the company to adapt to the changing environment in order to remain successful.
- Essential For The Welfare Of The Society:
Good management not only reduces difficulty of the task but also prevents the wastage of costly and rarely available resources.
Management helps in providing good quality of services and products, which increases the living standard. It also leads to more profit of the organization and thus, providing fair wages and generating more employment opportunities.
- Management helps in Achieving Personal Objectives:
Management not only helps in achieving the organizational objectives, but also the personal objectives of the employees. With the help of self-motivation and leadership techniques, management helps individuals to develop the spirit of cooperation, commitment and team spirit, that help them to achieve their personal goals as well.
In conclusion, management is important for every business, as it can make or break it. Good management can give the business a boost and take it ahead in the competition. So turning a blind eye to it is not an option, and it is very important to know what role management plays and how great an impact it can have on your business.
