In 2014, Connect Nigeria had its
first annual writers’ conference which resulted in a turn-out of over 100 writers and aspiring writers and had speakers such as Okechukwu Ofili, Seun Salami, Adaku Ufere, Lekan Otufodunrin, and Ike Nnaebue. After discussing the business of writing, many left inspired and ready to embark on their own personal ventures, however one in particular has almost one year later shown remarkable progress.
Mirian Chibuzor Azubuike has informed Connect Nigeria that, thanks to all she learnt at the Writers’ Conference, she has now published her first book titled ‘The Girl Who Found Water’.
The book is about is about Chibuzor, a young ambitious lady who was posted to Bauchi for National Youth Service just two months after the post-election violence that claimed the lives of nine corps members. She was also devastated because Bauchi is in North East of Nigeria where Boko Haram strikes hard. Chibuzor survived an explosion at the lodge where she lived in Bauchi and went further to construct the first borehole in a village, donate uniforms/writing materials for pupils and renovate and equip a carpentry skill acquisition centre. The grateful villagers named the bolehole after her and gave her a traditional title.
To mark the completion of her book, Mirian will be having a book reading at Terra Kulture on January 31
st, 2015 from 5-9 pm. For more information, you can call the event organizer, Lanre on 08184410647 or visit
