  With a keen focus on renewable energy technologies that are capable of providing sustainable, accessible, and decentralized solutions, improving self-reliance on fossil fuels, and boosting energy security for African communities, the 2024 UNDP Timbuktoo GreenTech Energy Accelerator Program is inviting applications from young Africans.

The GreenTech Energy Accelerator Program aims to promote startups that develop innovative solutions in renewable energy, access, storage, and efficient energy, tailored to meet African needs and create a sustainable and prosperous future.

To be eligible for the program

  • The applicants must be startups whose founders are African nationals.
  • The startup must be legally registered and operating within Africa.
  • Startups must have been operating for a minimum of three years.
  • Interested startups must be able to address development challenges.
  • The solution must be technology-based.
  • Interested startups must have a Minimum Viable Solution (MVS) (regulated and licensed if necessary).
  • Interested startups must have existing corporate governance systems and accountability.
  • Only citizens of African Union member states can apply.

Some of the benefits of the program include

  • Selected participants will become part of the inaugural cohort of the Timbuktoo GreenTech Hub and the entire Timbuktoo ecosystem across Africa.
  • Participants will gain mentorship from leading industry experts and seasoned entrepreneurs.
  • Participants will have access to technical experts and mentors to achieve product development.
  • Participants will gain access to blended financing options for enterprise growth and scale.

  • It is also a platform for equity-free funding to boost the growth of startups.
