  Superstar singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, won her fourth Black Entertainment Television (BET) award on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, United States, during the 2024 BET Awards.

Tems’ hit song “Me & U” beat off competition from the likes of legendary gospel singer Kirk Franklin, Maverick City Music, CeCe Winans, and a few others to win the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award. Recall that during the 2022 edition of the global award, the Grammy-winning artist won the Best International Act and Best Collaboration categories of the BET Awards. She was also announced the winner of the Best Collaboration category during the 2023 edition of the award for her collaboration with Future and Drake, “Wait for U.” The song also won the Best Collaboration category of the BET Hip Hop Awards in 2022.

Founded in 2021 by Black Entertainment Television, the BET Awards are dedicated to celebrating and recognizing black individuals who have been outstanding in music, film, sports, philanthropy, and more. Tems is not the only Nigerian singer or entertainer who has won a BET Award. Legendary singers Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and a few others have been recipients of the award.
