The Nigeria senior women’s football team, Super Falcons, have been billed to face Equatorial Guinea instead of Kenya, in their final 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Group B fixture. Equatorial Guinea was previously barred from featuring in the 2018 Total Women’s Cup, following a report that one of its players, Annette Jacky Messomo — who was in action in their Women’s AFCON qualifier against Kenya — was unqualified to play for them. The Central African country, however, made an appeal to CAF’s Appeal Committee, defending Messomo’s eligibility, and, requesting CAF to rescind its injunction. According to a statement issued by CAF’s appeals board, the entreaties by the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation were deemed admissible, as investigations showed that Messomo was in fact eligible to play the game.
The appeal lodged by the Federación Ecuatoguineana de Fútbol is admissible. The decision no 001-CAI08.09.2018 is overruled. The player Annette Jacky Messomo is eligible to play for the National Team of Equatorial Guinea. The National Team of Equatorial Guinea is reintegrated in the Total African Women’s Cup of Nations 2018.” — the statement reads.
Consequent on this, the Super Falcons will now prepare to do battle with Equatorial Guinea, on Saturday, 24 November, 2018, at the Cape Coast Stadium, Ghana. Source: CSN
