The Festival Women’s Trophy was held in Antalya, Turkey and keenly contested by CSKA Moscow, Uzbekistan, Equatorial Guinea, and the Super Falcons of Nigeria. The Falcons’ perfect finish happened in a fantastic fashion with the captain and Barcelona forward, Asisat Oshoala scoring four goals while Ogbonna Kanu, Uchenna Kanu, Toni Payne, Adule, and Gift Monday all scored one goal apiece. The Randy Waldrum led side started their campaign against CSKA Moscow, a game that ended one-nil in their favour. Chiwendu Ihezuo was the scorer of the lone goal in the 18th minute in a game that saw Toni Payne and Patricia George make their debut for Nigeria.

The second game against Uzbekistan also ended in a slim victory for the super falcons. Halimat Ayinde’s nicely tucked in effort from close range in the 47th minute was all the ladies needed to see off the game. The last competitive game for the girls was at the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) in 2018, thus, this was a good test for the Super Falcons as it has enabled them to get together in order to maintain their synergy. It has also afforded Coach Randy to inject new players into the fold, understand the players and work towards making them better. Featured Image Source: Nigeria Football Federation
