African Champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, proved their name and status as they totally outclassed Gambia with a 6-0 thrashing in the second-leg of their final 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifications play-off fix at the Agege Stadium on Monday.

The Super Falcons did not just defeat the Gambians on 7-0 aggregate, but have also picked a ticket for the 2018 AWCON finals scheduled to begin in NOVEMBER 2018 and also serve as qualifiers for the 2019 FIFA Women’s  World Cup in France.

Desire Oparanozie was in HYBRID mode, netting four goals, while Assisat Oshoala scored a brace to give the Falcons the unequivocal win.

The eight-time African champions started the match on a very good note with Oparanozie perfectly converting a penalty in the 3rd minute after Francisca Ortega was fouled inside  the box.

Five minutes later, Oshoala thought she had doubled Nigeria’s lead, only for her effort to be ruled off as offside.

The remaining minutes of the first half saw the Nigerian duo Amarachi Okonkwo and Oshoala probe the Gambian defense for a goal without success.

However on the stroke of halftime, Oshoala’s efforts finally paid off when she netted Nigeria’s second goal.

Four minutes into the second half, Oparanozie slotted in an Oshoala cross to give Nigeria a three goal lead.

In the 65th minute, Oparanozie took the goal difference to 4-0 when she latched onto an Okobi pass and shot past Gambian goalkeeper.

At this point it was more of a defensive play for the Gambians. However, Oshoala found her way through the brick Gambia defense in the 74th minute to put in Nigeria’s 5th goal and her second in the game.

All the letters that spell G-A-M-B-I-A save the last letter A were already spelt until Oparanozie grabbed her fourth and Nigeria’s sixth goal with seven minutes on the clock to give the visitors a proper Nigerian send-off.
