The Super Eagles of Nigeria started their journey to the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with an easy 2-0 win against the Stallions of Burkina Faso on Saturday, 17th October, 2015.
Nigeria scored a goal in each half to record a much needed victory in the first leg of the CHAN qualifiers with the reverse fixture billed for Ouagadougou next weekend.
Nigeria took the lead in the 24th minute through Bature Yaro of Nasarawa United at the Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Warri Wolves striker, Gbolahan Salami, who scored against Rangers in Enugu last weekend, ensured maximum points for his team when he scored from the spot in the 76th minute after Ezekiel Bassey was hurled down inside the box.
The winner is guaranteed a place at the 4th African Nations Championship taking place in Rwanda early next year.
The Nigerian team made its debut in the third edition of the continent’s premier competition for senior players plying their trade in their country’s domestic league held in South Africa early last year after missing the first two editions and winning a bronze medal for their efforts.
