With the approval from CAF, new dates were also fixed for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Hectic match schedules will see Africa’s finest national teams vie for slots in the two competitions from November 2020 to November 2021. Changes to the original schedules were made because of the coronavirus pandemic which caused a temporary suspension of sporting activities around the globe. For the 2021 AFCON qualifiers, qualifiers will commence from November 9th to 17th for the matchday 3 and 4 fixtures while the penultimate and last round of matches will take place on March 22 and 30, 2021.

For the 40 African teams competing for a slot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, qualifiers will resume between May 31 and June 15, 2021, for the first and second round of matches. The matchday 3 and 4 fixtures are set to hold on August 30 and September 7, 2021, while the matchday 5 and 6 fixtures will take on October 4 and 12, 2021. Playoff matches for the World Cup qualifiers are set to hold on November 8 and 16, 2021. To ensure the safety of players, officials, fans and all stakeholders involved during matches, CAF is closely monitoring the situation with relevant health authorities and announcements regarding safety measures will be made in due time.
