Sunshine Stars couldn’t break down Egyptian Power House, Al Ahly in their African Champions League Semi-Final second leg Clash at The Militrary Academy Stadium in Cairo.
The match was almost called off when Zamalek, Ismaili and other Egyptian clubs’ players along with the Ultras blocked Sunshine Stars Hotel Base protesting against Al Ahly’s involvement in the tournament. Egyptian League has been on-hold for some months now due to the crowd clash that killed some fans in February this year. The players and Ultras asked the match be awarded to Sunshine Stars.
After an hour, the Sunshine Stars were escorted to the stadium under heavy security where they played behind closed doors against the Egyptians. The Egyptians took the lead in the first half through Gedo. The Akure Boys were so lucky to get into the break just a goal down with the Egyptians missing good number of chances to seal the game.
The second half started the same way with the Egyptians in control, hitting the wood work twice. Medrano had Sunshine’s best chance of the game when his shot from outside the box richochet off the wood work.
The Egyptians held on to win 1nil (4-3 on aggregate) and will face Tunisian Champions, Esperance de Tunis in the final.
