After the long wait following the close of the transfer window and a lot of paper work, the MFM FC forward Stephen Odey has finalized his move to FC Zurich.
The 19 year old scored 18 goals for his former team MFM FC in the last season of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) games to put them in the next CAF Champions League tournament, and has featured twice for the Super Eagles of Nigeria. Odey was thrilled to sign the four year deal with the Swiss top flight club after his release was granted by FIFA on Wednesday and is now eligible to feature for Uli Forte’s men.
This move, which will keep Odey playing for the Swiss side till the end of the 2020/2021 European football season, was confirmed by the team on the official FC Zurich site on Wednesday; “The 19-year-old Nigerian Stephen Odey changes immediately from MFM FC Lagos to FC Zurich where he signed a contract until the end of the season 2020/2021.” The Head of Sports at FC Zurich expressed his excitement to have Odey join them and is very assured that he will make an exceptional addition to the team.
Bickel told the FC Zurich media that “Stephen was already a goal scorer and a national player in his home country at the age of 19. We are glad that he wants to take the next step with us”
Odey will begin training with his new team as soon as the international break is over.
Zurich won their last match against Lugano, 3-nil, and are in second place on the Switzerland Super League table with 17 points, 2 points ahead of Basel, and 6 points behind table toppers Young Boys.
