Rivers Angels Beat Nasarawa Amazons To NWFL Shield Rivers Angels, the Aiteo Cup Champions, defeated Nasarawa Amazons in Sunday’s matchup to become title holders of the Nigerian Women’s Football League Champions Shield. In the first half of the matchup, Rivers Angels took the lead in the 42nd minute through Alice Ogebe, but the Amazons short-lived their reign thirteen minutes into the second half. The game went on 1-1 without a decisive goal into a penalty shootout where Rivers Angels won the match 4-3.  Warri/Effurun Peace Marathon: Plateau Runners Dominate Race Athletes from Plateau State topped the charts in the Warri/Effurun Peace Marathon, concluded at the War Township Stadium. In the female category for the 10km race, Deborah Pam proved superior to other runners. With less than 2km to go Faustina Ogah was head-on with Pam up until 1km into the end of the race where Pam showed her dominance in the race to walk race athlete Ogah. Elizabeth Nuhu came in third. In the male category of the same race, Adamu Shehu crossed the finish line almost unchallenged. Emmanuel Gwon Gyan and Gideon Goyet came in second and third place respectively. Kano Pillars Atop The NPFL League Kano Pillars defeated Go Round FC 2-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday, putting them on top of the Nigerian Professional Football League table with twenty points. Kano Pillars secured their win thanks to Junior Lokosa’s brace. The player has now scored 10 goals for the Pillars this season. Super Eagles Keeper Uzoho Concedes Twice in Real Deportivo Defeat Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho while in action for Real Deportivo conceded twice in an away game against CF Talavera de al Reina in Sunday’s Segunda division B league game. Uzoho was deprived of his 11th clean sheet of the season when Jorge Fernandez sleekly defeated him in the penalty area in the 62nd minute before Christian Fernandez put in another goal two minutes before full time to secure Tarareva’ win. Aminu Scores In Blazer’s Win Nigerian basketballer and Portland Trail Blazers star Al Farouq Aminu scored as Blazers defeated Oklahoma City Thunders 108-100 in Sunday’s game. In what would be one of his lowest records, Aminu scored three points and made six rebounds in his 19 minutes of action. The Trail Blazers will travel to Los Angeles to face LA Lakers on Monday. FC Ifeanyi-Ubah Draw Rivers United FC Ifeanyi-Ubah managed to take their first away point from Rivers United at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, PortHarcourt. Anambra Warriors were pinned to a 1-1 draw by 10 man United. FC Ifeanyi-Ubah scored the opening goal via a penalty in the 59th minute when goalie Rotimi Sunday brought down Seka Pascal in the ’18 and was later sent off. Nonetheless, Ochefu Salefu calmed the storm when he equalized for United five minutes before time.   In other NPFL matches, HeartLand lost to Lobi Stars who are now on 20 points and in position 2 on the NPFL table. Nassarawa United defeated Wiki Tourists 1-0 via a goal from Mohammed Suleiman. In Maiduguri, Elkanemi Warriors and Niger Tornadoes ended their game in a 0:0 stalemate, while in Akure, Sunshine Stars and Enugu Rangers battled to a 1:1 draw. Abia Warriors defeated Kwara United 1-0.
