Still in the spirit of the recently celebrated Father’s Day, Johnny Drille‘s “Papa” is our song of the week.
The song is an ode to fathers, particularly referencing his own father’s wisdom, prayers, and his admonition as he leaves his hometown for greener pastures. He advises his son of the importance of prayer and faith when he loses his way.
The lyrics are something everyone can relate to, especially those who have left home, leaving parents behind at some point in their lives.
Johnny’s father is a clergyman and school principal in Benin, Edo State.
Johny Drille is a Folk and Alternative singer signed to Mavin Records. He was one of the contestants of the 2013 edition of the MTN-sponsored Project Fame West Africa. His debut single, “Wait For Me”, was nominated Best Alternative Song at the 2016 Headies Awards.

Johnny Drille – Papa Lyrics
He calls me to pray
He tells the Lord
To watch over me
Oh my papa
He can like to say
As you go away
Don’t forget where you came
If you lose your way you can pray
Don’t be afraid don’t lose faith
You will find your help there’ll be a way
Just remember to pray and you’ll be ok
Papa
He calls everyday
He asks me son
I hope you’re doing okay
Oh my papa
He too dey fear say I gho go astray
Cos I walk a stranger land
And my home is so far away
Papa says if you lose your way you can pray
Don’t be afraid don’t lose faith
You will find your help there’ll be a way
Just remember to pray and you’ll be ok
Me sef dey pray for Papa
Make him find more strength and grace
And may the good Lord keep him longer
In Jesus name.
If you lose your way you can pray
Don’t be afraid don’t lose faith
You will find your help there’ll be a way
Just remember to pray
If you lose your way you can pray
Don’t be afraid don’t lose faith
You will find your help there’ll be a way
Just remember to pray and you’ll be ok
You can pray
Don’t be afraid don’t lose faith
You will find your help there’ll be a way
If you remember to pray
