A loose ball from Derby County’s defence saw Ighalo pounce on it and brilliantly guide it into the bottom corner of the post despite pressure from Derby County’s centre backs to make it 2-0 in the 41st  minute after Luke Shaw gave United the lead in the 33rd  minute of the encounter. Ighalo would make it 3-0 in the 70th minute after thumping the ball into the roof of the net after his first effort was blocked by the Derby defence.

Solskjaer is delighted with the efforts of the Nigerian striker and believes he will add more to the team with time.

He is doing what it says on the tin and what we asked for when we signed him…He is coming in, playing up front, and he’s a different type of striker. He scores, he gets chances every game and today he could have had another couple. I am very happy with him… He is experienced and he has scored goals all of his career. He is in and around the box, he reads it, he sniffs out where the chances will come. I think that striker is vital for a team… There is more to come. He will improve, he will get sharper and more used to us. I have no doubt that he will only get better
