Despite not giving Odion Ighalo the nod to start in most games, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, has insisted that the Nigerian striker is a vital part of his squad. Ighalo who has only featured thrice for Solksjaer’s men across all competitions this season was listed in the 21-man squad for today’s (October 20, 2020) UEFA Champions League Matchday One tie against French league giants, Paris Saint Germain (PSG).

Without a doubt, Ighalo’s limited playing time has ensured that he is yet to score this season as he has been behind Anthony Martial in selection order for games, while United had to sign Uruguayan striker, Edison Cavani, putting the possibility of the Nigerian featuring in the starting eleven very minimal. Commenting on today’s match, and about the role of the Nigerian in an attack that now has Cavani, Solksjaer hailed Ighalo’s performances in the few games that he has played, citing his importance to the Manchester United fold.

‘As a team and club, we always want to get players in’. And Edison coming in, we will give him time to adapt to the Premier League and as a team get his fitness and sharpness back. And we’ve had some very good performances by Odion and he is still a very important part of this squad.’ Ole Gunnar Solksjaer
If things continue this way, Ighalo might quit United by January 2021, and return to Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League. Source: Complete Sports Featured Image Source: UK Footie
