Future Females, as the implementing partner with UK-Nigeria Tech Hub, launched this as part of its pledge to help drive clean, resilient, and inclusive recoveries in Nigeria. It is expected that the programme will help shape how to achieve a low carbon economy in the future and to create new jobs, attract green investment and protect the environment for future generations. The programme which is set to commence on May 24th is designed to initially support 30 Nigerian female green-tech entrepreneurs via a 12-week coaching session with experts drawn from various areas of industry. The initiative is targeted at Nigerian female entrepreneurs with early-stage businesses aimed at protecting the environment and conserving natural resources using alternative technologies that are less harmful to the environment.

The event will run virtually for three months and will cover 10 actionable modules that take entrepreneurs through the fundamental building blocks of starting and growing a GreenTech business. The minimum requirements for applicants to meet include being based in Nigeria while the business must be a GreenTech business that solves a problem. The business must also impact respective communities/industries. Qualifying startups include those working on Waste Management, Generation of power, Water management (harvesting, filtering/treatment, and metering), Farmer’s Market, Organic produce & retail, Green blogs, Eco-friendly fashion, Eco-friendly beauty or cleaning products, upcycling furniture, Green app development, used bookstore, Herbal remedy, Food plant nursery and such other industries. In a statement by the British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Ben Llewellyn-Jones:
‘As the world looks to build back better from the COVID 19 Pandemic, which has affected millions of lives and adversely affected economies, it is important to remember that we are still tackling an even greater crisis – climate change.
