If you are active on social media, you may have come across a
trending dance video featuring a group of Ikorodu street kids. This video caught the attention of mega celebs like
Rihanna,
P. Diddy, and
Naomi Campbell, who re-granned the video on Instagram. The children belong to a dance group called
Dream Catcher Academy, which was founded by
Seyi Oluyole. Seyi utilizes dance as a medium of recruiting destitute children into school.
Highlights of the video
The heartwarming video begins and ends with a group of young girls descending from an abandoned BRT bus one after the other, dancing to Wizkid’s
Nowo. Each girl steps forward and performs different Nigerian dance moves ranging from our favourite
Shaku Shaku to
Shoki. As each child dances, the other children cheer on happily.
This is not the first video of the children showcasing their exotic dance moves, as they have shown their love for dancing in countless other videos on their
Instagram page.
Since the dance video gained international recognition, the Instagram page of the Dream Catchers Academy has presently grown in followership from 12,000 followers to over 47,000 followers.
