Wole Soyinka’s Plane Seat Incident

One of the highlights of the week was a tweet by Nigeria politician Tonye Cole in which he recounted an experience he witnessed between a young man and Wole Soyinka on a plane. In the tweet, he called out the young man for asking Wole Soyinka to leave his seat and tagged him “disrespectful”. Of course, Nigerians had a lot to say about the tweet with some defending the young and others agreeing with Tonye Cole.

This week, it was all about his award for Best International Act at the 2019 BET awards. Nigerians not only celebrated him, critiqued him but also paid a great deal of attention to his mother for her stirring speech at the BET awards.
