Abacha
This week it was revealed that money laundered by the former head of state of Nigeria, Sani Abacha, had been seized by from a bank in New Jersey by a British court. The money was reported to be worth £211,000,000 and will be held by the government until authorities in Jersey, the US, and Nigeria reach a conclusion on how it should be distributed.
Senate Presidency
As the race for the seat of Senate Presidency continues, one of the candidates, Senator Danjuma Goje, announced that he had stepped down from his race. In a meeting with the President, the Senator stated his reasons for stepping down and endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawal (APC Yobe).
AIT Suspended By The NBC Indefinitely
On Thursday, June 6, 2019, the Director General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), Modibbo Kawu, announced that the body had suspended the license of DAAR Communications PLC indefinitely. According to Kawu, the suspension came into effect after reports and complaints flooded in from concerned Nigerians about the broadcast contents of DAAR Communications Plc’s AIT/Raypower.
