El Rufai
This week the Nigerian Bar Association bowed to pressure when it withdrew its open invitation to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State, to its upcoming annual general conference. This followed a series of tweets from lawyer influencers who saw this as grounds to refuse attendance to the conference themselves. The grounds for this was the Kaduna State Governor’s poor human rights record and his perceived passive stance to the spate of killings in Southern Kaduna.Cynthia Morgan
Cynthia Morgan is Cynthia Morgan again. Apparently, she was trending for using her old moniker after going by “Madrina” for a while due to some contractual issues. It seems she has her name back now as she released a new song with it, only yesterday.Sign up to the Connect Nigeria daily newsletter
Mali
Mali has recently experienced a coup. Only last week President Buhari was in the country on a peace mission. President Buhari had been in the country on a peace mission but on the back of that, the country fell deeper into crisis. In the lead up to this, the country has been in an uneasy balance between its military and political class. So far, its struggle with the insurgency in its north has been a major part of its woes and despite failing to fight off insurgents, the military has still been able to exert undue influence on the politics of the state. Mali has had a recent history with coup d’etats with the most recent happening in 2012 which is directly linked with this one in that the now-ousted president, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, was elected in the wake of the last coup. What is clear now is that power has changed hands despite appeals on the part of government officials for dialogue between both power camps and so far the name that stands out has been Col Ibrahim Wague who is deputy chief of staff of the Malian Army.#ApologizeLyta
Young Nigerian artiste, Lyta, has come under fire on Asian Twitter for plagiarizing Korean boy band, GOT7’s single, “Just Right” in his new music video for “Hold Me Down”. Fans of the boy band hung him out to dry for copying the video concept. Naira Marley recently signed the 22-year old for his Marlian Records only weeks back. In the wake of the backlash, the video’s description on YouTube was edited to read that it was inspired by GOT7 and BTS. Leave your comments and contributions and be sure we will reply. Keep your fingers crossed for next weeks trends. Featured Image Source: Natiro VibeGot a suggestion? Contact us: editor at connectnigeria dot com
