It is quite rare to come across individuals who dabble in two completely different professions. Such individuals often serve as a source of inspiration for some who haven’t found their true calling in life. They also prove that hard work is a true virtue. Here are some celebrities who have medical backgrounds and are currently waxing strong in the entertainment world.
Dr. Sid
Many know Dr. Sid as one of the big names in Nigerian hip hop who reigned alongside the likes of Don Jazzy, Dbanj, Wande Coal, and D’Prince in the now defunct group Mo’Hits Records. However, some may not know the ‘Dr’ in the talented singer’s stage name is to be taken literally. Although a talented musician and entertainer who has released hit songs such as Surulere, Kabiyesi, and Over The Moon, Dr. Sid attended the University of Ibadan where he studied dentistry before venturing into music. In fact, he practised as a dentist for some years before quitting to focus full time on his music career.
Jemima Osunde
Jemima Osunde is popular for playing the role of “Liala” in MTV Shuga and has appeared in a host of highly-grossing movies. Interestingly, Jemima Osunde is one of those few individuals who juggled acting and the rigours of medical school. While managing a successful career as an actress, she was also attending the University of Lagos where she studied Physiotherapy. Earlier this year, Jemima revealed she had been inducted into the Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Board of Nigerian – a feat that can be considered remarkable given her success in the entertainment industry.
Craze Clown
CrazeClown proves individuals can have both a funny and geeky side. The comedian whose skits were one of the first to begin the trend of ‘Instagram Comedy’ in Nigeria is also a Medical Doctor. Unbeknownst to many, he was studying Medicine at the University of Kiev, Ukraine, while posting entertaining skits on Instagram. With a large following on Instagram and a career in a demanding field, it is highly exceptional how he managed to navigate both worlds.
Kiki Omeili
Kiki Omeili’s acting career kicked off when she featured in the movie ‘Married but Living Single’ where she played alongside the likes of Funke Akindele Bello, Joseph Benjamin, Joke Silva, and Femi Brainard. Since then, she has gone on to star in more movies including the popular TV series Lekki Wives which shot her into the limelight and earned her accolades. Like many other science inclined folks who also have a passion for the arts, Kiki abandoned her career in Medicine for acting. In 2006, she opted for acting after graduating from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. With all her achievements in the entertainment world, one can say she made the right choice.
