Anthony Joshua
Anthony Joshua is one celebrity who has been very vocal about his Nigerian roots ever since he came to limelight. The former Unified World Heavyweight Champion was born to both Nigerian parents from Yoruba extraction. He started boxing professionally in 2013 and went on to perform amazing feats in his career, becoming the British and Commonwealth champion, IBF heavyweight champion, and Unified Heavyweight Champion. With all his achievements as an international boxer, Joshua never fails to pay homage to his fatherland. The sportsman became a trending topic just a week ago when he came to Nigeria and visited the renowned places like Makoko and the Fela Shrine. See some photos of his visit to Nigeria below:
Adepero Oduye
Adepero Oduye is an actress, writer, and director born to American immigrant parents from Nigeria. Raised in a family of seven, Adepero ventured into acting despite earning a pre-med from Cornell University. She debuted in the award-winning movie Pariah, by Dee Rees, which won her several awards and got her nominated for the Best Female Lead at the Independent Spirit Awards. She went on to star alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor in the epic drama 12 Years a Slave which was released in 2014 and received wide acclaim. Adepero is another Nigerian in diaspora, who credits her success to the hard work of her immigrant Nigerian parents. She communicates this clearly in this short interview below
Olurotimi Akinosho
Known popularly as Rotimi, Olurotimi Akinosho is a Nigerian-American actor, singer, and model. He came to limelight when he was cast on the TV show Boss as drug dealer Darius Morrison and went on to land more prominent roles in movies like Imperial Dreams and Divergent. Rotimi is also known for his role as Andre Coleman on the TV series Power. No stranger to his fatherland, he credits his success to his Nigerian mother’s work ethic. Rotimi was born to an Igbo father and a Yoruba mother.
Dayo Okeniyi
If you’ve seen the dystopian movie “The Hunger Games”, then you would be familiar with Dayo Okeniyi, the actor who was cast as Tresh. Dayo, whose father is Nigerian and mother, Kenyan, moved with his family from Nigeria to the United States in 2003. Apart from The Hunger Games, Dayo also starred in the movie Endless Love and played the role of Danny Dyson in the 2015 Sci-Fi movie Terminator Genisys.
