So much commentary and criticism has come Super Eagles Manager, Steven Keshi’s way following the release of the thirty-man provisional list from which the final twenty-three will be selected.
The list released by Keshi, has most of our core players but the big question is ‘does it have our most in-form players?’
Many actually assumed that irrespective of some of his key players not having playing time at their respective clubs, the big boss wouldn’t have selected them. People were therefore surprised that some players who were once regulars at the national team and have enjoyed much playing time within the last football season were left out of the squad.
While players like Victor Moses, Elderson Echiejille, and John Mikel Obi among some others have not been regular in their various club sides, Ike Uche has been arguably the most prominent Nigerian player scoring 14 league goals, yet he was excluded from the list.
It isn’t too late to call back Ike Uche, as countries usually base selection on players who are regular in their club sides as it eliminates the need for excessive training.
Keshi should however, be applauded for Osaze’s return back to the Eagles but one can only hope that bringing back Osaze Odenwengie and Joseph Yobo will be enough to improve the team come June 12.
