In an effort to inspire entrepreneurs and the implementation of bright energy ideas to Africa’s benefit, multinational oil company, Shell has unveiled Africa’s first human and solar-powered football pitch in Lagos. It is located in the Federal College of Education, Akoka, Lagos, and is in line with the company’s’ #makethefuture programme. “Shell makes a significant contribution to energy solutions for Nigeria, and we are committed to supporting the Nigerian economy and its people. We need bright energy ideas. Some of these will come from Shell but naturally, others will come from outside our business,” Osagie Okunbor, Managing Director, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC) said. Present at the unveiling, music star, Akon had this to say about the project, as cited in the company’s press release, “New, reliable and smarter energy solutions play a major role in driving human progress in Africa. Projects like this innovative football pitch draw attention to the major opportunity that Nigeria as well as the whole of Africa have if we look to better harness new technologies and the continent’s abundant renewable energy resources.” The artiste is set to feature the pitch in an upcoming music video, Tell Me We’re OK, which is centered on encouraging young Africans to start thinking of how to impact the future. It’s great to see innovative ideas like this one become reality. Let us know your thoughts on the new solar powered football pitch in the comments section below.       Source: Shell
