Nigerian international striker, Shola Ameobi’s younger brother has declared his interest to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria. The young Newcastle winger cum striker is eligible to play for both Nigeria and England, who he has represented at under-21 level, but has opted to stick with the green jersey.
Speaking to Nigerian newspaper, The Punch, He said, “It will be a great honour to play for Nigeria. I would love it. I have seen how it has been with my brother and the World Cup was a great experience, which I would love to experience and help make sure Nigeria participates in again.”
Ameobi, who has been on the fringes of the team, is hoping to put in a scintillating display for the Magpies this season.
Ameobi is, however, prepared to put all his focus into the upcoming campaign with the Tynesiders, adding, “I am in the last year of my contract with Newcastle and I have to start it with a bang. I am no longer a kid.
“I have had a lot of injuries which I am hoping I have gotten over now, so I need to play very well to either get a new contract with Newcastle or be able to make a good move elsewhere.”
