Nigerians stranded in neighbouring countries of Ukraine such as Poland, Romania, and Hungary, are set to return home, thanks to the Nigerian government.
As the ongoing crisis between Russia and Ukraine intensifies, the federal government as part of efforts to ensure that Nigerians in Ukraine return home safely, confirmed on Tuesday, March 2, 2022, that it has sent a chartered flight to safely evacuate Nigerians that flee Ukraine to countries like Poland, Romania, and Hungary.
In a statement made public by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was disclosed that a chartered Max Air Flight has been sent to evacuate 560 Nigerians from Romania, while an Air Peace flight will see to the return of 364 Nigerians in Poland, and 360 Nigerians in Hungary.
“Furtherance to our efforts to evacuate Nigerians from the neighbouring countries surrounding Ukraine, we can confirm that Chartered flights will depart on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 to pickup Nigerian evacuees back home,’’
the statement said.
“So far, we have the following records of evacuees received by Nigerian embassies at Hungary (650 persons), Poland (350 persons), Romania (940 persons), and Slovakia (150 persons)…The capacity and route of the airlines are as follows: Max Air to Romania 560 persons, Airpeaceto Poland 364 persons and Air peace to Hungary 360 persons.’’
The statement also revealed that the first batch of evacuees are expected back in the country on Thursday, March 3, 2022, and reiterated the government’s commitment towards ensuring Nigerians return to safety.
