The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has announced a replacement for former Technical Director, Ntiense Williams, who was dismissed at the board’s last meeting.

In the interim, Abubakar Yakubu also called ‘Yaro’, has been appointed as Acting Technical Director.

According to the President of the Federation, Kelechukwu Mbagwu, ‘Yaro’s’ appointment was unanimously decided by the board, as it aims to ensure that the federation’s long term objectives are properly upheld.

On the choice of ‘Yaro’, the NRFF boss said, as an ex international and current coordinator of the Northern Nigerian Rugby Union, Abubakar was the best hand they could find to fill the position.

“He has the experience, he has the knowledge and the ability to represent the country internationally. “Yakubu is known as the “no nonsense” founder of the Sabon Gari rugby club currently playing in the Northern league” — Kelechukwu Mbagwu

Speaking to newsmen on the board’s choice, Debo Oshundun, the Spokesman of the NRFF, said the choice to pick ‘Yaro’ was not merely because the ex international is popular, but rather because the Nigerian is effective and can return Nigeria’s rugby to its days of glory.

“He is highly respected for his efficiency and effectiveness with which he coordinated the Northern league (known as the oldest league in the country) during last year’s highly successful rugby campaign,” — Debo Oshundun

Mbagwu has advised members of the general public to note the personnel changes in the federation and only deal with the new officials on any rugby related issues.
