Head coach of the Nigerian national team, Gernot Rohr, has urged Super Eagles and Lille OSC of France centre forward, Victor Osimhen, to join Italian Serie A side, Napoli. Osimhen who emerged the best African player in the French league for the 2019/2020 season has been the subject of transfer rumours linking him to the Italian giants, and Rohr believes moving to the Pernotopei will help Osimhen’s development as a player.

Reports have emerged that the 21-year-old Nigerian striker is currently negotiating a deal with Napoli that will see him offered a five-year contract as Napoli is desperate to get a replacement for Arkadiusz Milik who is set to depart the club once the season is over. The German tactician expects Osimhen who bagged 18 goals and recorded six assists for the Les Douges last season to take his chance and keep impressing on the global stage.
“Of course, we are talking about a scorer, a player of power and speed. He is a fighter, he never accepts defeat, he always wants to win, even in training matches… Victor has a great player mentality. And often, in our chats, I advised him to take an important step and go to a level club, where he can find the right space to play continuously and grow. He is a guy who loves to work hard and who needs to be in constant competition. I hope Victor talks about it with Gattuso and can then find the right role within the Napoli project.” Gernot Rohr

Rohr also hailed Osimhen’s commitment and respect whenever he is discharging duties for three-time African champions, Nigeria, especially at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where Nigeria finished third.
“During the last African Cup, he didn’t play very much, he had a very important player for Nigeria like Ighalo in front of him. When, however, Ighalo was forced to stop for an injury, Osimhen had his chance. Victor fought all week, training hard, but without ever giving problems to me or teammates if he remained on the bench.” Rohr
