Nigerian national team coach, Gernot Rohr, has expressed delight at being handed a new deal by the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The new two-and-a-half-year contract will see Rohr whose current contract is expected to expire next month (June 2020), continue handling the Super Eagles, a job he was handed in 2016. Confirming the new contract via mails sent to some officials of the country’s ruling football body, Rohr thanked them for believing he is fit to continue handling the biggest national football team in Africa.

I am happy to confirm that we have come to an agreement to continue my work as head coach of the Super Eagles for the next two years and a half. I want to say thank you to the Nigeria Football Federation, led by President Amaju Pinnick, the board and of course the General Secretary for their confidence in me to continue in this job.

Rohr also noted it is uncommon to see a coach in charge of a country’s senior team for what will now be a little over six years when the new deal expires. He also expressed belief in the quality of talents the Super Eagles present squad possess, stating that with the support of the federation, the government, and football fans across the country, success will be achieved in the near future.

It is not common to have a country with the same national coach for what will be six years and this will be made possible because of the support of the federation, the government of Nigeria and our team. We have a big project in front of us. We have the quality and with the continued cooperation of everyone concerned, including the fans and good people of Nigeria, I believe we will have a good result that will spell great development for football in Nigeria in the future.

  • It is very good that the NFF hand him a job continue on the team. The kind of players he has in his disposal for real is worth to achieve and upgrade his profile as a coach. The boys are doing well and are more familiar with him than new face. He just need to work on tactical approach to game if he want to record success with the team. If he can work on that and get it right,I see him going through new offer on the table. Up Super Eagles up,up NFF, up Nigeria.
