THE 2013 edition of Felabration, a concert which celebrates the life and times of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, is set to hold soon. Rita Marley, widow of late reggae icon, Bob Marley, is expected at the event. Rita Marley will arrive Lagos and grace the event as a special guest speaker, and would be sharing her thoughts on the theme of the event: ‘Movement of the People- The Fela-Bob Marley perspective.’
This agreement was reached after Ms. Marley met with Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti, who is the founder of the Felabration brand and Theo Lawson, Chairman, Felabration Organising Committee. The meeting was held in Ghana, a country which very recently granted Ms. Marley honorary citizenship.
According to the organisers, this year’s theme is fashioned to rekindle the people-oriented messages which these two mega stars, Fela and Marley, imbibed while they lived. It is remarkable to note that, despite sharing the same thoughts and dreams about people and their relationships, Fela and Marley never shared a stage together. This is about to be rectified, as one of the Marley superstar sons has been billed as one of the surprise acts that will perform during this year’s week-long Felabration, alongside famous Afrobeat pop star and Fela’s son, Femi Anikulapo-Kuti.
This year’s Felabration will run through 14th and 20th October, beginning with the symposium.
