The popularity of e-commerce websites in Nigeria these days is an excellent development that shows that the country is moving forward in terms of economic innovations, job provision and entrepreneurship. Online shopping is definitely not a new innovation in the world. Far from it, but for Nigerians, this is majorly a fairly new development. Our shopping has been mostly brick and mortar based.
There are a lot of online merchants offering anything from grocery shopping and delivery, to online shopping for clothes, shoes, electronics and furniture. While customer experience has been fairly okay for a lot of these websites, they can still do better in terms of service delivery, customer service and product originality.
Of all the online shopping I’ve done so far, The Kitchen comes up as one of the best. The Kitchen is an online food service delivery with an office located in Lekki Phase One. They provide cooked, ready to eat meals for individuals and for parties. Their menu includes breakfast meals, main course, salads, drinks, snacks and finger foods. The Kitchen delivers within Lagos, with a delivery charge tailored to your location. My experience with The Kitchen has been superb in the following ways.
Customer Service
I place my order online and either pay online, or choose the option to pay on delivery. The first time I ordered, I chose to pay on delivery because I wasn’t sure what the experience would be like. As soon as I made the order, a lady called me to verify the order and my details. She was polite and friendly. She gave a time frame of one hour, and my food arrived within that time. Every time I have ordered after then, it has been the same process. The food is delivered by a delivery man who is equally polite and friendly.
Food Quality
I’ve ordered quite a number of meals from The Kitchen including ofada rice, jollof rice, potato chips and barbecued chicken, and every single plate has been well cooked, delicious, and steaming hot. The food is delivered in an insulated bag that keeps the food hot till it gets to you. The main meal is packed separately from the protein and the pack comes with disposable/reusable bowls, cutlery and tissue.
Delivery
My major problem with online shopping in Nigeria is usually delivery. Merchants promise nationwide delivery but go ahead to tell me that a part of Lagos is too far for them to deliver to. Some even ask if you can meet the delivery person at a designated place or pay an extra fee for delivery. Every time I have ordered from The Kitchen, delivery has never been a problem. I pay a delivery fee of N500 for my location, and the food gets delivered to me on time, and at my precise location. The Kitchen also offers outdoor catering services. Although I haven’t tried that, their online delivery already speaks for them. If you are at home, at the office, or you have a party coming up, try The Kitchen, and you will be impressed. You might also like:
