MTN, the largest telecommunications giant in terms of subscribers in Nigeria joined the vibrant growing android market in August with the launch of their sm@rt S620 and S720i. The company took it a notch higher partnering with online marketplace Jumia for additional marketing and sales.
The sleek phones which are also available at all MTN shops nationwide come in two colours, black and white but the black is predominant in the market. Here is a review of the MTN sm@rt 720i.
The phone has dimensions 125*64.1*11.7mm with a weight 100g, a capacity rating of 1500mAh and Android 4.2 jellybean OS
The features of the phone include:
4.0 inch LCD screen with resolution 480*800 pixels and screen display tech WVGA
1.3Ghz dual core
Front and back camera for video and pictures, both 2MP
Internal memory of 4Gb, a memory card slot and 512Mb RAM Fm radio
Wifi
Dual Sim slot
The sm@rt 720i comes pre-installed with great applications like Hello Food, Jumia, BBM, MTN play, Google Play store, Whatsapp, 2go, Facebook and Easy Taxi apps, which is a bit impressive and saves the user about 20MB worth of downloads; data that can be put to other use.
The camera is a bit on the low end and the settings have to be tweaked to get an ideal photo each time a picture is taken as it automatically switches to default settings. Not recommended if you are an Instagram junkie.
The FM radio has a fantastic record feature- the user has the option to record radio programs. Cool, imagine being distracted and your favorite show is on… With the touch of the record button, you never have to miss anything.
The WiFi- hotspot option gives users the opportunity to share data with other devices, and this is a plus for the phone.
Battery life is fair though it tends to overheat when in use for a long period.
For the price of ten thousand naira, the MTN sm@rt 720i dual sim android phone is given a 8/10 rating but MTN should please get additional features like protective casing for the screen and phone as this is not a general market product so it has been hectic trying to find one in the market and none of the MTN stores are carrying any at the last check.
