The Nigeria Communications Commission has mandated all telecommunication subscribers in Nigeria to register their phone lines or get blocked, on or before June 30. The SIM registration exercise for existing lines, which has been on for more than two years now, would come to an end by June 30. All unregistered lines by that date will be blocked. New SIMs will have to be registered before activation. The SIM registration exercise involves submission of personal and biometric details to Networks. The exercise, according to officials, would boost security and reduce crime. Networks are also sending messages to users to confirm their SIM Registration status, to ensure that subscribers do not assume that they have been registered when they are not.
