Nigeria Premier Football League giants, Enugu Rangers, have made it to the next phase of the CAF Confederations Cup after coming from behind to beat AS Pelican 3-1 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday, September 29, 2019.
Having lost the first-leg of the tie 2-1 against the Gabonese side in Libreville a fortnight ago, the Enugu-based club knew they needed to put up their best performance to see off the visitors and qualify for the next round.
However, the game did not start on a bright note for the coach Benedict Ugwu’s boys as Dertin Amores gifted the visitors the lead in just five minutes into the contest, giving the visitors a 3-1 aggregate advantage. The Flying Antelopes would reply the Gabonese league side in the 18th minute with Ifeanyi George’s strike, but the host remained aware of the fact that they needed to score two more goals without conceding any to advance into the next phase. Nnamdi Egbuhor’s goal six minutes into the second half meant Rangers took the lead and restored parity. Ibrahim Olawoyin’s goal six minutes later saw Rangers win the game 4-3 on aggregate and book their place in the next round of the competition.
Victory in the next round will see Rangers secure a berth in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
