She was the daughter of Ife’s bravest warrior, who grew up fighting against injustice and oppression and was later married into the royal family of Oduduwa. She was instrumental to the freedom of the Yoruba people and their victory over the dreaded “forest people”, who had over a long period enslaved them. This would cost her the life of her son as a sacrifice to Esimirin.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi, recently erected a statue in her honor, the tallest in Nigeria and fourth tallest in Africa.
The play features actors, both seasoned and upcoming, including Kehinde Bankole, Bimbo Manuel, Femi Branch, Ayo Ayoola, Deyemi Okanlawon, Bam Bam and more, will relive the legend of a courageous woman who lost everything in order to preserve the future of the Yoruba people.
