The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) is an international, non-profit organization founded in 1987. This Washington D.C based development organization provides assistance and support for elections in new and emerging democracies. Since 1987, IFES has provided assistance in 135 countries and it currently has programmes in over 30 countries throughout Asia, Africa, Europe and America.
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems’ (IFES) Charles T. Manatt Democracy Award is presented each year in a special ceremony to one Democrat, one Republican and a member of the international community who demonstrates the dedication to democracy and human rights embodied by the award’s namesake, former IFES Board of Directors Chairman, Charles T. Manatt.
The immediate past chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, has been selected for this year’s award. The award was presented to him at Washington D.C on September 29, 2015 for his outstanding performance as the chairman of INEC.
